Hey ya’ll! It’s Kristen Turner, aka Miss Kris. I’m so excited to be partnering with JustFab on their latest campaign which was shot in New Orleans, a city near and dear to my heart. I’m from the South, but I grew up with family in Louisiana and spent my college years in New Orleans, one of my absolute favorite cities. I currently live in the crazy place that is Los Angeles and now call it my home. I recently spent the day with JustFab showcasing hidden gems in Los Angeles that remind me of the Crescent City. Here’s my LA in LA.
Whenever I get homesick, I head over to the Gumbo Pot located in the Farmer’s Market at the Grove. Tucked away from the crowds, the Gumbo Pot cooks one of the most delicious bowls of gumbo that I’ve ever had – and that’s saying a lot coming from a Southern girl!! It instantly reminds me of all of the weekends spent with family cooking our favorite dishes, including a big ole’ pot of gumbo.
The Farmer’s Market reminds me of the French Quarter in New Orleans with cute street vendors and food stands and restaurants at every corner. I can feel the vibrant energy of the city reflected in this place and it’s the closet place to my house that I can easily drive to that reminds me of home.
I come to the Little Jewel of New Orleans whenever I need to grab any special ingredients I use to cook my family’s southern recipes that I can’t find anywhere else – seasonings, hot sauces…it’s the only grocery store in Los Angeles that has what I need to cook my fabulous dishes! They also carry delicious Café du Monde coffee that they sell in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It’s such a hidden gem, I love going there to escape the city. The owner is so friendly and a fellow Saints fan (GO SAINTS!).
I cannot even begin to tell you how many nights I spent out in New Orleans on Bourbon St. during my college years. I have so many crazy stories of watching the sun rise, dancing to live jazz music and consuming way too many hurricanes (google it: it’s famous to NOLA!). Preux & Proper is located in downtown LA and reminds me of the vibrant nightlife of New Orleans. The vibes of this place instantly transport me back home and I always take my LA friends to this hotspot to give them a little taste of where I come from.
New Orleans is such an inspiring city – the fashion, the culture – everything about this city gives me life! Thought I don’t live there anymore, I’ve found a new home in Los Angeles and I’m so happy to have found places in LA that remind me of my family and my Southern roots.
